LVA-Roanoke Valley’s biggest fundraising event, its Annual Book Sale, nearly doubled in revenue over last year. When we first counted the money, we thought we must have made a mistake…. $13,400! That was far beyond our expectations.
Our new location at Tanglewood Mall combined with more publicity, books, and committee members than ever before, were keys to the success this year. With two weeks to set up the sale in the old Davidson’s store, the committee had time to organize and display the books so that the space looked as close to a book store as we could make it.
A huge crowd arrived for the opening of the doors on the morning of June 1st. After the initial rush, business was steady throughout the weekend. By Sunday evening there were fewer books left over than we’ve ever had before.
Special thanks to all the volunteers who helped make this year’s book sale so successful: Kathy Adams, Floyd Addison, Chantel Albert, Rachel Barham, Danny Bird, Claire Blake, Jerry Blake, Jon Boettcher, Mary Bova, Lee Bristor, Todd Burns, Barb Carraher, Nancy Chapin, Ellie Clark, Dee Copenhaver, Nuria Crowe, Donna David, Mary Delaney, Blanche Dowe, Jan Dowling, Libby Dungan, Pat Dungan, Kandy Elliott, Petra Ewen, Bob Fetter, Susie Fetter, Nancy Francisco, Clara Geist, Laura Hanson , Marissa Harris, Mark Hickman, Barbara Kafka, George Kegley, Barbara Landon, Annette Loschert, Larry Loschert, Natalie McMahon, Emily Moore, Rhonda Moore, Rob Moorefield, Janey Mountcastle, Margaret Mountcastle, Karen Recknor, Pam Reilly, Greg Rice, Elizabeth Robinson, Sally Rugaber, Mary Souder, Bev Strickland, Ron Swenson, Meredith Tenison, Stuart Wamsley, Karin Warpula, and Robin Wise.
