Asking and Answering Questions using Basic Vocabulary

Objectives:

bullet

The learner will formulate "Where?" questions and restate answers as sentences.

bullet

The learner will use "Who?", "Where?", "What?" and "Is there?/Are there?" questioning formats to ask and answer questions related to health care.

Duration:

 

     4 hours

 

Materials:

Asking Questions#1 sheet

Asking Questions#2 sheet

bullet

Healthcare vocabulary sheet

bullet

Enchanted Learning or Specialized English for a copy of a body map and terms)

Activities:

  1. Teacher introduces health vocabulary, modeling pronunciation and directing students to repeat.

  2. Teacher conducts substitution drill with overhead projector and transparency of the human body.

  3. Learners take turns conducting restatement drill using "What is?"/"What are?" and "Is this?"/"Are these?" questions.

  4. Learners complete Asking Questions#2 sheet.

Assessment:

 

Teacher meets individually with each learner to evaluate written and verbal questioning skills and to receive learners' feedback on progress.
