Talking About Telephones

Objectives:

bullet

The learner will dispute a telephone bill in a role play activity using a prepared dialogue.

bullet

The learner will create a dialogue between a customer and a telephone company representative from a prepared scenario.

bullet

The learner will correctly use the possessive pronouns "my," "your," "his," "her," "its," "our" and "their" verbally and in written form.

bullet

The learner will correctly use the common contractions "I'm," "you're," "he's," "she's," "it's," "we're," "they're," "what's," "that's," "where's," "how's" and "there's" verbally and in written form.

The learner will read and respond to a problem about a telephone bill using correct grammar in written and verbal form.

Activities:

  1. Teacher models correct use of possessive pronouns.

  2. Whole class participates in chain drill using possessive pronouns.

  3. Teacher models correct use of common contractions contained in the Telephone Conversations sheet.

  4. Whole class participates in chain drill using common contractions contained in Telephone Conversations sheet.

  5. Learners respond to possessive pronoun and common contractions flashcards by forming sentences spontaneously.

  6. Learners respond in writing to problem solving activity, page 2 of Telephone Conversations sheet.

  7. Learners compare responses in pairs.

  8. Paired learners practice sample dialogue and perform in front of whole class.

  9. Paired learners write original dialogue using the problem on page 3 of Telephone Conversations sheet.

  10. Whole class discusses/offers corrections for each learner pair following each demonstration. 

Assessment:

 

Teacher monitors written work for completeness and accuracy; teacher and learners discuss/correct dialogues following each pair's demonstration.
