The
following curriculum framework and pacing guide outlines Comprehensive
Skills II of Literacy Volunteers’ second six-week EL/Civics session,
which began in late July, 2002. Like Session I, this session consists of three "stand alone" units with the computer-based
instruction continuing throughout the entire session. Each of this session's
units features a short description, timeline and list of activities for this
class of intermediate level English learners. However, many of the materials
and activities are easily adapted to meet the needs of learners at other
levels of competency.
The
Comprehensive Skills II session differs from the previous session in
that a civics/consumer skills unit was developed to replace the earlier civics
unit. This revision reflected the preferences of the class, which preferred
a unit that stressed a more practical, "hands on" learning
experience with direct application to the consumer-related tasks experienced
daily.
Detailed descriptions of the lessons used throughout this session may be found
by going to the
E/L Civics Complete Lesson Plan Index and clicking on the appropriate
subject. Tutors with questions about this session's activities, their
sequence or how to apply them to single- and paired–learner environments
may call the Literacy Volunteers ESOL coordinator at 265-9339, Mondays
through Fridays, or use
e-mail anytime.
