"Nice to Meet You"

1. Teacher introduces present perfect continuous tense by writing the term on the board, followed by the questions, " How long have you been studying English?" and "How long have you been living in the United States?" 

2. Teacher elicits responses from learners, writing responses on the board.

3. Teacher modifies responses in writing so that each is a complete sentence and is matched with the appropriate question. Teacher explains proper sentence format (have/has been + -ing verb ending) and question format ("How long have you..?" questions are answered with "I have been...").  

4. Learners perform chain drill where each student answers both questions out loud. 

5. Teacher explains the appropriate use of "for" and "since" with present perfect continuous tense (use "for" for amounts of time; use "since" with specific times and dates). 

6. Learners complete the conjugations of the the verbs "apply," 'work," "study," "look" and "live" using the Verb Conjugation worksheet. 

7. Learners interview two other learners in the class using the Interview form. Teacher instructs learners to first correctly write each question in italics using the cues provided. Learners write verbal responses (in complete sentences) in the space given. 

8. Each learner chooses one other learner to introduce to the class using the information on the Interview form.

9. Learners complete Present Perfect Drill worksheet.

10. Learners verbally share responses to the Present Perfect Drill worksheet.

Assessment:

Teacher monitors verbal and written responses of individual students.
