The
following curriculum framework and pacing guide outlines Everyday English
III of Literacy Volunteers’ eighth EL/Civics session, which began
in early August, 2003. As with the other Everyday English sessions, Everyday English
III emphasizes conversational activities, grammar and life skills while
integrating computer and Internet skills into the session curriculum.
Learner
preferences for Everyday English III identified strong interest in
receiving grammar instruction focusing on gerunds and infinitives,
understanding English sentence structure, and the proper use of comparatives
and superlatives. Popular life skills topics included health (especially
pertaining to emergencies and healthy diets), job interview practice and
understanding American schools. Computer skills are integrated into this
curriculum on a lesson by lesson basis.
Detailed descriptions of the lessons used throughout this session may be found
by going to the
E/L Civics Complete Lesson Plan Index and clicking on the appropriate
subject. Tutors with questions about this session's activities, their
sequence or how to apply them to single- and paired–learner environments
may call the Literacy Volunteers ESOL coordinator at 265-9339, Mondays
through Fridays, or use
e-mail anytime.
